DOGS
HAVE FEELINGS TOO
21 April 2004
This
poor old chap was dumped in the Tumut Pound Pen over the Easter holiday. The Tumut
Ranger contacted S.M.A.R.T and said this elderly gentleman was full of character
and badly neglected. Dougal was full of fleas and extremely underweight and needed
a good feed, groom and a home to go to. We believe Dougal is also deaf.
People need to remember when buying a dog that "a dog is for life", and after
dedicating themselves to you they do not deserve to be dumped in the pound once
old and frail. Even dogs with health problem should be taken to the vet to be
"Put to Sleep" instead of having to wait in the pound. Dougal
will spend the rest of his life in luxury in S.M.A.R.T's care. S.M.A.R.T and Dougal
would like to thank Kris Casey from Paws 2 Pamper (Batlow) for grooming Dougal
and our other S.M.A.R.T animals. March
2004 Snowy
Mountains Animal Rescue Team volunteers were shocked on Friday afternoon when
they received 3 pups that have obviously been mistreated. The pups were severely
underweight, dirty, scabby, full of worms and very shy and frightened. "The people
who had these pups should not be allowed to have animals, they have been neglected
for some time before being dumped" stated Lorene Cross from S.M.A.R.T.
Originally
there were 4 pups, but one died before making it into S.M.A.R.T'S care. Another
little black pup (volunteers had named Jazz) unfortunately had to be put down
on Monday after struggling all weekend and deteriorating on Sunday night. "It
is distressing for us to see animals in this condition and we are pleading with
everyone to de-sex their pets so there will be less neglected and unwanted animals
like these," said Lorene. The two surviving pups are so far relatively healthy
considering their mistreatment and will stay with foster carers until they have
gained enough weight and are fit to be placed in new homes. They
are 6-10 weeks old and appear to be Pointer X. They are both female (brown and
black/white). "They are very sweet and will make wonderful, loving pets when placed
in a good home," said Lorene. She
has also stated that S.M.A.R.T. volunteers are unfortunately expecting to be a
lot busier after Christmas when the inevitable X-Mas puppies and kittens are dumped.
It is a very busy time for S.M.A.R.T. and they are asking people if they can find
it in there hearts to donate pet food of any sort for their animals, please phone
(02) 6949 1491 or email us at info@snowymtnsanimalrescue.org.
Update:
These pups have now gone to good homes and doing really well.
Spotty
weighted 2 kilos when she came to us. She, like Jazz, was full of fleas and worms.
Lucky for Spotty she was a little healthier and managed to gain weight steadily.
Spotty was a very shy, sad little girl.
She
now has a new home and has put of a lot of weight and is enjoying life to the
full. Lucky
was the same weight as Spotty and probably the healthiest of the three pups.
She was more social and once in Foster care she showed her true nature as very
loving.
Lucky
is now of to Adelaide for a new life in a loving home. Lucky
and Spotty will never look back now that they have loving new homes. If more people
got there dogs desexed there would be less neglected, unwanted dogs like the three
above. Please
remember that a Dog is for Life and the best way to prevent unwanted puppies is
to have your pet desexed. All animals should be wormed,
vaccinated and flea treated to help prevent health problems. For
more information please phone us on (02) 6949 1491 or email us at info@snowymtnsanimalrescue.org. Back
